Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's ODI Squad to Face India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-match ODI series facing India, as high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a surprise selection.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international side after scoring just one run in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a top score of 47 in his most recent ten ODI innings.

Labuschagne has played 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 runs at an batting average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now continue to press his claims a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Team Changes

Recent performances suggest of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after scoring a hundred in the final game against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from October 29.
